More About Kevin Wei, MD

Dr. Kevin Wei joined the medical team of MCMC | OHSU Cardiology in 2011. He brings to Gorge residents extensive training and expertise in echocardiography, an important tool used in the detection and management of patients with known or suspected heart disease.

Dr. Wei has specific expertise in bubble echocardiography, which uses tiny gas bubbles injected into the blood stream to evaluate and understand blood flow and heart function. He was trained in the procedure at the University of Virginia Medical Center by one of its leading experts, Dr. Sanjiv Kaul, and now also practices with Dr. Kaul at OHSU.

Dr. Kaul refers to his colleague as “an internationally recognized leader in the field of echocardiography.”

In addition to his practice at MCMC | OHSU Cardiology, Dr. Wei continues to see patients at OHSU and is a member of the medical school faculty. But he says he jumped at the chance to begin to see patients in a smaller, more rural region like the Gorge.

“I was really pleased to have the opportunity to come to The Dalles and work to build a facility for diagnosing and managing heart disease that is similar to what is available at OHSU,” Dr. Wei says.

Dr. Wei says bubble echocardiography, which isn’t available anywhere else in Oregon besides OHSU (and soon MCMC | OHSU Cardiology), helps him visualize heart structure and function with much greater clarity than other commonly used techniques.

A native of Hong Kong, Dr. Wei and his wife of 20 years have an 11-year-old daughter. He enjoys cycling and skiing in his off hours.
