The Care We Provide
Internal medicine is the branch of medicine concerning the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases in adults, especially of internal organs. We also offer geriatric medicine, which focuses on the health of older adults.
Our doctors, also called internists, are required to have included in their medical education and postgraduate training at least three years dedicated to learning how to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases that affect adults. While the name "internal medicine" may lead one to believe that internists only treat internal problems, this is not the case. We treat the whole person, not just internal organs.
Why establish a relationship with an internal medicine physician?
As primary care physicians for adults, internists play an essential role in your personal health and in our healthcare system. In fact, studies show that a good relationship with a primary care doctor is associated with better health for you and lower health care costs for our communities.
On the front lines, we serve as a first contact when you have a common health concern or non-emergency situation. Our role is to help prevent, identify and treat common problems and provide comprehensive and continuous care. We also help coordinate other health services or specialty referrals, such as to cardiology, orthopedics, urology and dermatology, while serving as a point person for your care.
Further, we bring in specialists such as diabetes nurses, behavioralists and pain management specialists to meet all your healthcare needs in one setting. It is important to find an internist that you trust and feel you can work with for a long time.
