Every year Mid-Columbia Health Foundation (MCHF) hosts the Tournament of Tradition golf event that raises money for local breast healthcare services. This year they raised $22,000 that will go to community members in need.

“Funds from this year's tournament will support our Breast Health for Strong Families Program which provides free mammograms to those who qualify, along with outreach and education for the community,” said Celeste Hill-Thomas, MCHF Executive Director.

The MCHF Breast Health for Strong Families Program has funded over 200 mammograms. Five of those mammograms resulted in a positive breast cancer diagnoses. These mammograms are gifted to women who would not have received a screening mammogram without this free service.Tournament of Tradition Golf Benefit The Dalles

This year’s two-day tournament hosted 42 teams consisting of 168 golfers at The Dalles Country Club on June 3 and 4. The presenting sponsor was Structured Communications with partners ShoreTel & NetApp. Sponsors traveled from as far as Texas to participate in the tournament. 41 generous sponsors donated anywhere from $300 to $5,000.

“The thing that sets the Tournament of Tradition apart from our other events is the capacity for about 25 sponsorships.  It gives businesses the opportunity to play a major role in what we do in the community,” Hill-Thomas said.

Over 40 volunteers hosted fun games and activities at every hole. Local prizes were given for the women’s and men’s long drive and closest to the pin. Papa Murphy’s sponsored a hole that gave the golfer who shot closest to the pizza box a free monthly pizza for a year.

"Our sponsorships, along with proceeds from games and competitions on nearly every hole of the course make this possible. Our tag line for the event has always been where fun and fundraising are par for the course, and it's completely true,” Hill-Thomas said.
