Who Should Visit the Sleep Center?

Sleep problems can affect your home, work and social life - even making everyday activities difficult. People with sleep disorders often have trouble staying awake and alert.
Experts estimate that 95 percent of those suffering from sleep disorders go undiagnosed, because they mistakenly attribute their symptoms of sleep disorders to other conditions. People literally sleep through their problems.
Sleep disorders and poor sleep can be associated with the following symptoms:
-
Daytime sleepiness even after a full night’s sleep
-
Morning headaches
-
Breathing irregularities/heavy snoring, snorting or gasping during sleep
-
Short temper or irritability
-
Nighttime chest pains
-
Lack of energy or ambition
-
Drowsiness while driving
-
Problems concentrating or remembering things
What Happens at the Sleep Center?
We work with patients to identify and treat their sleep problems.
Frequently, we evaluate the following conditions:
-
Sleep-related breathing disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea
-
Restless legs syndrome and movement disorders during sleep
-
Circadian and shift work-related disorders
-
Narcolepsy
-
Parasomnias such as sleepwalking or talking and night terrors
-
Excessive daytime sleepiness
-
Dependence on sleeping pills
-
Insomnia
Methods of Treatment
Treatment for these disorders may include medication, relaxation training, behavioral therapy or the use of special devices that help patients improve their sleep.
Some patients will need an overnight sleep study (called polysomnography or PSG) to make a final diagnosis. Polysomnographic technologists will monitor your sleep, breathing, heart rhythm and limb movement through painless sensors attached to your head and body by a technician.
Our facility offers comfortable, private bedrooms, each with a bathroom, television, telephone and closet. We provide testing Sunday through Thursday nights.
