It is estimated that 54 million people suffer from some form of mental illness in the US in a given year. Mental disorders are common and widespread. But most families are not prepared to cope with a loved one with mental or emotional problems. Symptoms can include changes in mood, personality, and social withdrawal and can be emotionally draining for families coping with difficult behaviors.
