Emergency Care

In case of emergency, rest assured that the specially trained physicians and professionals in Mid-Columbia Medical Center’s Emergency Department are ready for you around the clock. MCMC’s emergency physicians are board certified by the American Colege of Emergency Physicians and each emergency nurse is trauma certified. All members of our emergency team are certified in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support.

Besides providing round-the-clock on-site care, MCMC’s partnership with Oregon Health & Science University in Portland enables patients arriving with symptoms of heart attack or stroke to benefit from the expertise and care of Oregon’s only academic medical center.

MCMC and OHSU have developed a protocol to ensure patients showing heart attack symptoms can be diagnosed, stabilized and transported to Portland with efficient speed. In addition, our telemedicine robot provides a conduit between physicians at MCMC and stroke specialists at OHSU in Portland, enabling them to perform long-distance evaluations of potential stroke patients and help MCMC staff quickly determine the best course of action.

When to use MCMC Emergency Department

The Emergency Department is for significant health issues that require immediate treatment.

Reasons to use the ER include:

  • Chest pain, shortness of breath and other symptoms of heart attack or stroke.
  • Major broken bones.
  • Significant, uncontrolled bleeding.

An emergency means you could die if you don’t get care quickly. Or you could be hurt permanently (disabled).

Misuse of hospital emergency department’s is a major contributor to the rising cost of healthcare. The ED is an inappropriate and expensive setting for the treatment of non-emergency issues, such as colds and flu, scrapes and bruises. For non-emergency issues, please seek attention from your primary care physician.
