John has been with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center in Houston since 1987. He completed his BA and MD degrees at the University of Iowa and family medicine residency at the University of North Carolina. His MPH is from the University of Washington, and his MEd is from the University of Houston. John is certified in Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Advanced Wilderness Life Support. John is included in Best Doctors in America, Castle Connolly Top Doctor, and Who’s Who in America.
John is married to Jane E. Corboy, M.D. who is also a family medicine physician at MCMC. Jane and John have been the faculty sponsors of the Baylor student chapter of the Wilderness Medical Society and have taught Wilderness First Aid and Advanced Wilderness Life Support classes at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.
Jane and John first came to the Columbia River Gorge in 2004 and bought land in Mosier in 2005. They finished building their vacation/retirement home in 2012 and have been traveling here regularly to enjoy the Gorge lifestyle. They relish the drive from their home down 7 Mile Hill Road to The Dalles. They are delighted to finally be able to combine their passions for taking care of patients and enjoying the outdoor activities available in the Gorge.
Their active lifestyle includes running, hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, skiing, and mountaineering. They have completed 27 marathons, including New York City, Big Sur, Boston, and the Original Athens Marathon. Their most interesting hiking and camping trek was the Inca Trail in Peru. Their rafting includes the Futaleufu in Chile, the Apurimac in Peru, the White Salmon in Washington, and the Ganges in India. They have skied in Colorado, Utah, and at both Timberline and Mt. Hood Meadows in Oregon. They have climbed Shasta in California, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Aconcagua in Argentina, and Adams in Washington.
