From injury to diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play, Mid-Columbia Medical Center’s Sports Medicine team provides total care for competitive athletes and weekend warriors of all ages.
MCMC Sports Medicine is a comprehensive source for specialized expertise and experienced care designed to help athletes return to their highest level of competition as quickly and safely as possible. We treat most injuries non-operatively, but also offer advanced surgical solutions when appropriate.

Mark Cullen, M.D.
Dr. Cullen is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. After earning his medical degree, he completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency-training program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He received additional sports medicine training in the premier fellowship program at Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center. In addition to his board certification in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Cullen is certified in ImPACT concussion management.
John Schwartz, M.D.
Dr. Schwartz graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Medicine, before completing and orthopaedic surgery residency at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Schwartz practiced in The Dalles for 12 years before relocating to Alaska in 1995. He returned to the area in 2011 and helped establish MCMC | OHSU Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Schwartz is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.
A physician assistant, Kristen was born in LaGrande and raised in Boise. After graduating in exercise and sports science from Oregon State, Kristen spent three years in Boston, where she earned a master’s degree at Northeastern University and practiced in emergency departments in city hospitals. She is thrilled to once again call herself an Oregonian.
