The Columbia Gorge was a natural fit for Dr. McCarthy, who grew up in a
small town in Wyoming, and developed a love for the Northwest while attending
medical school in Seattle. An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. McCarthy enjoys
spending her free time as an equestrian, hiking, white water rafting,
skiing, and traveling. She moved to Oregon in 2015, when she met and married
a local man. Family is a priority for Dr. McCarthy, who lives with her
husband, Luke, and their beloved dogs. Dr. McCarthy decided to pursue
a career in medicine when she felt drawn to science throughout her education,
and loved the tactile nature of surgery. Her surgical interests are breast
surgery for cancer and benign disease, as well as minimally invasive laparoscopy,
which includes foregut (stomach) antireflux procedures, colorectal procedures,
gallbladder and more. She is also trained in thyroid and parathyroid disease.
Dr. McCarthy enjoys being able to see noticeable change in her patients,
and loves that she can see her patients through a varying level of acuity.
She is also currently working toward an advanced certification for breast
imaging, biopsy and partial breast radiation.
