Mid-Columbia Medical Center’s Family Medicine program has been awarded
a 5-star designation in Oregon’s Patient-Centered Primary Care Home
program. The 5-star rating is the highest available designation and is
given only to those institutions and programs that meet the topmost of
rigorous standards.
“The MCMC Family Medicine program has been an essential part of health
care here in the Gorge for more than half a century, and we are honored
to be awarded this high designation for the services we provide and the
compassionate way in which we provide them,” said MCMC Chief Medical
Officer Serene Perkins, M.D. “This designation is a testament to
the wonderful team we have here at MCMC and also a challenge to always
be looking for ways to better serve our neighbors and our community.”
As Dr. Perkins explains, family medicine physicians care for people of
all ages (from infants through the elderly) with a wide range of acute
and chronic conditions. Often coordinating care provided by other subspecialists,
MCMC’s family medicine physicians also provide preventive care,
including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunization and
screening tests, and personalized counseling on maintaining a healthy
lifestyle.
“The foundation of our program is the continuous and personal relationship
that our family medicine physicians build with the patient,” said
Dr. Perkins. “They are devoted to treating the whole person—with
knowledge of the patient in the context of family and community, advocating
on their behalf to make the health care system a little less complex.”
