Mid-Columbia Medical Center announced today that its Fitness Center at
Water’s Edge will reopen on July 1. The Fitness Center has been
closed since mid-March as part of the statewide coronavirus shutdown.
“We are looking forward to welcoming back our fitness center members,”
said Thomas J. O'Donnell, PT, DPT, director of rehabilitation services
at Mid-Columbia Medical Center. “We want everyone to know that we
are taking all necessary precautions to provide a safe environment so
that our members can get back into their fitness routines, which are such
an important part of overall health and wellness.”
Following state guidelines to keep members and staff safe from COVID-19,
the Fitness Center will require that members adhere to social distancing
in group classes as well as in the gym where exercise equipment will be
spaced six feet apart. Group classes to be held are Yoga, Pilates, Barre
and Tai chi. High intensity exercise classes will not be offered during
the initial reopening. The pool will have limited availability for lap
swim and individual pool exercise. Aqua aerobics will not be offered at
The Fitness Center will be open to 20 members at a time on a first-come,
first-served basis. Members will be asked to keep their gym sessions to
one hour per day. Equipment will be cleaned often.
Masks are encouraged, but not required while exercising as long as social
distancing is maintained; however, members are asked to wear masks inside
the Fitness Center when they are not actively engaged in exercise.
“Although some things will be different, we are happy that we are
now able to open back up so that our members can continue on their health
and fitness journeys,” added O'Donnell.
The Fitness Center will be open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to
6:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will be closed
