Mid-Columbia Medical Center has teamed up with The Skin Docs to offer free
skin cancer screenings to the community on Wednesday, June 24, from 4-6
p.m. at Water’s Edge, 551 Lone Pine Blvd., in The Dalles. Available
by appointment only, the screening is painless and takes only a few minutes.
Board-certified dermatologists Collin Blattner, D.O., and Jonathan Bellew,
D.O., recently opened their practice—The Skin Docs—in The Dalles.
“We are thrilled that our community now has access to highly trained
dermatologists right here close to home,” said Serene Perkins, M.D.,
chief medical officer at MCMC. “This free screening event offers
a chance for people to meet Dr. Blattner and ask about any areas of concern.
People considered a higher risk for skin cancer—such as those with
moles, freckles, fair skin, or a family history of skin cancer—are
urged to schedule a free screening.”
The skin cancer screening includes the examination of arms, legs, and above
the chest or other areas that are of concern to participants. Participants
should wear short-sleeved shirts and shorts to have their arms and legs examined.
“Skin cancer is the most common cancer, with one in five Americans
developing it over the course of their lifetime,” said Dr. Blattner.
“Fortunately, many skin cancers can be cured if they are detected
and treated early.”
