Hospitals and health systems across the country have been struggling with
a tsunami of staff resignations unlike any other time in recent history.
In fact, a survey conducted by the American College of Healthcare Executives
found that personnel shortages overall were the top-most concern cited
by hospital chief executive officers in 2021.
Burnout is one of the chief reasons nationwide that clinical staff members
are resigning, as COVID has placed extreme stress on frontline workers.
But competition for workers at all levels is coming from other industries
outside of health care, and they are luring employees away with the promise
of higher wages and better benefits.
Like other hospitals in our state and region, MCMC is also dealing with
staffing shortages, employee turnover and the impact of COVID. Recognizing
that our people are our Number One asset and a fully staffed workforce
is essential for quality care, MCMC will be embarking on a major employee
recruitment campaign over the Summer. Entitled “My Community, My Career,” the initiative will be spotlighting actual employees who work on the frontlines
every day treating patients, keeping the hospital running smoothly or
ensuring our physical plant is kept in top condition. They will convey
in their own words why they choose to work at MCMC.
Our employee recruitment campaign will kick off with an all-day Career
Fair on Friday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on our campus. We are running
extensive advertising to promote the Career Fair and will be giving out
free gift cards to the first 35 applicants. Ads will be running on local
radio, in movie theaters, in the print media, and online. Phase 2 of our
employee recruitment campaign will consist of ads featuring our own employees,
complete with their photos and testimonials. We will be running on the
above advertising outlets as well as billboards over the course of the
next few months. Our messaging is simple: Come work where your contributions
matter. Your opinions are respected. And your great work is rewarded.
But the most important message of all is this reality: MCMC is a family
of interconnected professionals who rely on each other and support one
another in the most sacred work of all: Saving the lives of our neighbors
and keeping our community healthy.
