Celebrating 120 years of responding to the community’s growing health care needs

Mid-Columbia Medical Center is currently celebrating 120 years of caring for residents of The Dalles and surrounding communities. Founded in 1901 as a hospital located in a family’s home, MCMC has grown to become a nationally recognized, comprehensive health system and the largest employer in Wasco County.

“From the very beginning, MCMC has been focused on ensuring that local residents have convenient access to the health care they need, when they need it, close to home,” said Dennis Knox, president and CEO of Mid-Columbia Medical Center. “As our community has grown, MCMC grown with it through the expansion of services, the opening of convenient locations outside of our four walls and the introduction of innovative programs that make sure that MCMC is continually responding to the wants and needs of the people we serve.”

In addition to inpatient, surgical and emergency care, MCMC offers a full spectrum of health care services, including primary and specialty care, as well as the renowned Celilo Cancer Center, a medical fitness center, an immediate care center at Water’s Edge and a women’s health center which has become the #1 medical option for many women in the Columbia River Gorge.

Among its many accolades and recognitions, MCMC has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, a symbol of quality that reflects the organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The hospital’s other nationally accredited programs include cancer, orthopedics, laboratory, sleep, breast center, inpatient rehabilitation and diabetes management.

“Being the community’s healthcare partner for more than a century means being there for you when you are in need of care,” said Knox. “It also means helping you stay healthy and fit. Our hospital, specialty clinics, physicians and employees make up a one-of-a-kind healthcare system that is unique to the Gorge. With a philosophy built around person-centered care, you can look with confidence to MCMC as we redefine what it means to be a healthcare provider in the 21st century.”
