Jeff Mathisen, M.D., has returned to the community he calls home with his
appointment as chairperson of surgical specialties at Mid-Columbia Medical
Center, effective immediately. In his new role, Dr. Mathisen will oversee
the entire surgery and anesthesia service line at MCMC.
“It is a unique blessing to be able to return to The Dalles and become
acquainted once again with the community, faithful friends, and a well-established
medical system,” said Dr. Mathisen. “I am looking forward
to building new relationships that will enhance the provision of surgical
services for all of the communities that we serve throughout the Gorge.”
A graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Mathisen began
his surgical career at MCMC in 2001 immediately after finishing his training
at the Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati. He and his wife raised their four
sons in The Dalles until 2014, when they moved to Bend, Oregon. There,
Dr. Mathisen was a pivotal figure in the establishment of Acute Care Surgery
at Bend Memorial Clinic, and the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Team at
St. Charles Medical Center.
“Throughout his career, Dr. Mathisen has been known for promoting
the kind of camaraderie and teamwork among multiple medical and surgical
specialties that is so vital to providing exceptional care for the trauma
patient and for patients undergoing life-threatening conditions,”
said Serene Perkins MD, chief medical officer at MCMC. “We are thrilled
to have him back at MCMC where he will fill a crucial role in enhancing
the care we provide to our community.”
